Here's an exceptionally nice cabochon of Utah's fossil red Horn coral. Not only are the colors and pattern nice this is a very large cab.. The average size cab in this coral is about half the size of this stone. It's VERY RARE to find these fossil coral cabs this size.
Well cut for bezel or wire wrap setting. Flat back and low domed top.
Red horn coral from Utah is estimated to be about 390 million years old. At one time a sea covered Utah and much of the western United States. As the sea receded the sediments covered the coral reefs and the ancient horn coral was fossilized and replaced by agate over time.
28.6mm (1-1/8" wide) x 33.6mm (1-5/16" long) and 5.9mm thick.
